East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) is seeking a dynamic registered nurse to join our continence service, delivering high-quality assessment, diagnosis and treatment for bladder and bowel problems. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop care pathways and promote evidence-based practice, while supporting service development and patient experience.

Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your specialist knowledge and skills in bladder and bowel care within a supportive and forward-thinking community service. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, and ensure patients receive an efficient and compassionate service.

You will manage your own complex caseload, providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients with bladder and bowel dysfunction. The role offers the opportunity to be involved in service development, education delivery, health promotion and innovative projects that enhance patient experience, clinical outcomes and cost-effective prescribing across the local health economy.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated practitioner who has the confidence to support, coach and develop colleagues to deliver consistently high standards of care. You will act as a clinical resource across primary and secondary care, influencing practice and promoting best evidence-based approaches.

Excellent communication, clinical reasoning and time management skills are essential. You will need a flexible approach to meet the evolving needs of the service, alongside the drive and enthusiasm to contribute to ongoing quality improvement and service development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of patients with complex continence problems.
• Provide specialist assessment and treatment plans to patients with bladder and bowel problems.
• Support patients and carers to promote continence.
• Provide telephone support for those requesting advice.

Education/Qualification/Training

• Registered Nurse
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
• Evidence of post registration qualification in relevant field
• Evidence of mentorship training

Experience

• Evidence of assessing patients with bladder and bowel problems
• Experience working within a urology / continence service
• Experience of independently managing a caseload
• Experience of delivering health promotion
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of service performance and outcomes

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to use sound clinical judgement to solve complex situations in relation to continence issues
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to demonstrate evidence based continence care following a needs- based assessment
• Able to take responsibility of own direct learning and continuous professional development
• Ability to motivate self and staff through leadership skill, prioritise personal objective, meet targets and deadlines
• Ability to interpret test results and plan treatment programmes accordingly.

We provide a wide range of community health and mental health inpatient services to children, young people, adults of working age, and older adults in The City of London, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Bedfordshire and Luton. We provide Forensic services to the whole of North East London. We provide services in urban and rural settings, sometimes in our inpatient units, but mostly in the community close to where people live.
