Job summary

Thomson LRC in Leeds is seeking an experienced Contentious Construction Lawyer to join its leading Construction & Engineering team in Leeds. The role offers high-quality work, responsibility and clear long-term career progression within a collaborative national firm.

You will advise clients on a broad range of contentious construction matters, including adjudications, court proceedings, arbitration and ADR, with hybrid working on offer and close involvement with Partners and key clients.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years' PQE in contentious construction.
  • Strong drafting and analytical skills.
  • Experience with adjudication and ADR.
  • Excellent communication and client management.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analysing construction contracts and supporting documentation.
  • Advising on the merits of claims and potential disputes.
  • Drafting pleadings, submissions and other key documentation.
  • Advising on and conducting adjudications.
  • Supporting litigation, arbitration, mediation and expert determination proceedings.
  • Negotiating settlements.
  • Managing matters efficiently and keeping clients regularly updated.
  • Supporting junior lawyers and trainees.
  • Contributing to business development, seminars, articles and client initiatives.

Thomson Legal is working with a leading UK law firm that is looking to appoint an experiencedContentious Construction Lawyerto join its highly regarded Construction & Engineering team in Leeds.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to work alongside market-leading Partners on some of the most complex, high-profile and high-value construction disputes in the UK.

The team advises an impressive mix of public and private sector clients, including developers, contractors, consultants, insurers and funders, on disputes arising from major construction and engineering projects.

The Role

You will advise clients on a broad range of contentious construction matters, including:

  • Construction and engineering disputes
  • Adjudications
  • Court proceedings and litigation
  • Arbitration
  • Mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution
  • Construction-related insurance disputes
  • Contractual and payment disputes
  • Complex claims arising from major projects

You will work closely with experienced Partners while also taking responsibility for your own matters and developing direct relationships with key clients.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing and analysing construction contracts and supporting documentation
  • Assessing evidence and advising clients on the merits of claims and potential disputes
  • Providing practical and commercially focused dispute resolution strategies
  • Drafting pleadings, submissions and other key documentation
  • Advising on and conducting adjudications
  • Supporting litigation, arbitration, mediation and expert determination proceedings
  • Negotiating settlements
  • Managing matters efficiently and keeping clients regularly updated
  • Supporting junior lawyers and trainees
  • Contributing to business development, seminars, articles and client initiatives
  • Candidate Requirements

    The firm is interested in speaking with lawyers with4+ years' PQEand a strong background in contentious construction or construction-related disputes.

    You should have:

  • Experience advising on contentious construction matters
  • A good working knowledge of adjudication
  • Experience of alternative dispute resolution
  • Strong drafting and analytical skills
  • The ability to manage complex matters and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and client management skills
  • A commercial and pragmatic approach to resolving disputes
  • The confidence to work both independently and as part of a wider team
  • A genuine interest in developing a career within construction and engineering disputes
