PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Audio Scotland is offering a terrific opportunity for a versatile Content Producer to work across our arts and culture content. You may contribute to a wide variety of programmes including Loose Ends, Front Row, Take Four Books, Book Club, World Book Club and specially commissioned documentaries and series.

You’ll have a firm grasp of the stories dominating the culture scene both locally in Scotland and stretching across the UK and beyond and the ability to flex your journalistic instincts to turn those stories into unique items which extend beyond the news headlines. In the literary space you’ll be an avid reader with extensive contacts in publishing, able to attract both big names and emerging voices. In addition to regular output, you’ll contribute to the development and production of occasional documentaries, series and podcasts within the arts and entertainment genres. Your ideas will reflect the diversity of the audience to BBC audio and in particular, aim to reach those who might not normally think that arts and culture content is for them.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

The Content Producer will work for BBC Audio. BBC Audio devises, develops and delivers original content for the BBC. BBC Audio, BBC Scotland and BBC Northern Ireland launched a partnership in 2024 which created a BBC Audio production hub spanning Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast. The unit creates content across a variety of genres but with a focus on arts and culture. With more than 500 staff producing over 90 hours of content every day for virtually of all the radio networks as well as BBC Sounds, BBC Audio is one of Europe’s largest production businesses specialising in audio.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • You will be an experienced creator of audio content, comfortable in both live and pre-recorded output, able to demonstrate that you are confident about all aspects of your productions from commission to compliance.
  • You’ll have experience of delivering projects on time and on budget, ensuring that audience expectations are fulfilled.
  • You’ll enjoy working as part of a team, happy to work with other BBC Audio teams across the UK and will build strong and productive relationships with these colleagues. Working with high profile presenter talent, you’ll be comfortable dealing with big names and their agents.
  • You’ll be well-versed in Editorial and Compliance Policies and know who to call on when you need advice.
  • You’ll have a pro-active approach to Health and Safety on location with many productions happening out of BBC studios and consider the BBC’s sustainability targets when planning content with your team.

The role is based in Glasgow and may report to both SCP’s and Editors depending on the programme or project.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • You can demonstrate deep knowledge of arts and culture
  • You will be highly organised with excellent communication skills, and able to juggle your workload to deal with shifting priorities, and different deadlines.
  • You will have a thorough grasp of editorial policy and compliance.
  • You will be a strong team player, with excellent communication skills necessary for working with colleagues, contributors and presenters.
  • You should have strong audio recording and editing skills, and interest in new and future technology.
