Job description

Social network you want to login/join with:

You know all about our high street roots and bricks and mortar stores. Now, we're looking to the future. Since 2021, we've embraced some changes. Debenhams hasn’t made a comeback—we’ve been here since 1778, evolving and adapting to the times. This is Debenhams today - Britain’s Leading Online Department Store.

We are more than a department store—we are an institution. From creating the blueprint for designer collaborations with Designers at Debenhams, to launching countless brands and inventing the beauty counter, we’ve consistently shaped the retail landscape.

We don’t underestimate the power of our brand or the place we hold in people’s hearts. This is only the beginning of the next chapter for Debenhams.

Your Role

We’re on the hunt for a creative powerhouse – an experienced and passionate Ecommerce Content Manager to join our dynamic Ecommerce Team at Debenhams.

In this exciting role, you’ll be at the heart of our growing Ecommerce team, helping shape and evolve the user experience across all digital touchpoints — including debenhams.com, our mobile apps, and partner sites like Burton, Oasis, Wallis, Coast, and Dorothy Perkins. Think big impact, across iconic brands.

We’re looking for a Content Manager with infectious energy, experience, and/or knowledge of writing content strategy. With this ability, they must be able to deep dive into customer needs, behaviors & emotions, allowing such insights to lead them to make informed content decisions. The Content Manager must also be able to motivate and coach team members, being a successful people manager with a keen attitude to nurture the team.

Your team

Each of our teams is the voice of their own brand, so we utilise creative campaigns, social media and influencer outreach, PR & Comms, and events. On the e-commerce side of things, we drive traffic to our online stores and generate sales through affiliate marketing, paid media, CRM, and SEO. Everything goes towards achieving our mission to be a global fashion e-commerce leader.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage a diverse team that delivers on multiple projects. Coach team members to increase their impact, develop their strengths, and grow their careers.
  • Influence and contribute to shaping the content strategy, research plans, and customer journeys.
  • Use data insights to identify and act on opportunities where content can deliver greater customer value.
  • Lead conversations, workshops, and activities with stakeholders to drive effective content decisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, researchers, visual designers, product managers, analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to build great user experiences that deliver business results.

More about you

  • Experience in a similar role, including people management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; avoid working in silos.
  • Knowledge of UX thinking and content writing, including research, UX strategy, experimentation, and accessibility.
  • Understanding of user experience design for web, mobile, or touch devices. Resilient with a growth mindset. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to apply a universal brand voice with various tones for different audiences/segments.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in grammar, proofreading, and editing.
  • Knowledge of SEO, content categorisation, structure, development, distribution, and measurement.
  • Experience producing web and app content, with some channel-specific knowledge (Blog, Social, CRM, Affiliates, Paid, etc.) being a plus.

Working with us

To succeed here, you have to love working at pace. It’s relentless, but we love it. Change is a certainty – you need to adapt and be agile. We want you to challenge the status quo, innovate, and be open to trying new things. We’re always pushing boundaries. We empower our people, giving them freedom and autonomy to learn and grow in their roles. We’re passionate, agile, creative, and one team.

We’ve set our sights on dominating the global e-commerce fashion market, and because we’re 13 brands (and counting), there are plenty of opportunities to grow your career. Our mission is to create a workplace where everyone is respected, their individual differences are valued, and they can be themselves at work without exception.

  • You’ll get the opportunity to participate in our share schemes.
  • Core hours allow flexible working times on an ad hoc basis.
  • Benefits supporting your health and wellbeing.
  • Up to 40% discount on all our brands.
  • Our social calendar? Next level.
  • With HQs in Manchester and London, and offices worldwide (some dog-friendly!), we offer a vibrant atmosphere and a collaborative culture.
