Job description

Our Media is a leading special-interest content business, based in the buzzing, creative city of Bristol. We're home to market-leading brands in craft, cycling, science and nature, homes and music.

We help our audiences pursue their passions through highly trusted, original content – in print, video and online. Our much-loved brands include BBC Science Focus, BBC Wildlife Magazine, Your Home, Gathered.how, BikeRadar and Cycling Plus.

We also have an award-winning content agency that works with major charities, brands and membership organisations to help them tell their stories and engage audiences better – in print, video, and online.

Position:

The Content Editor is a new role within our growing Nature portfolio, which comprises BBC Wildlife and BBC Countryfile magazines.

Working across both brands, you will play a key role in the nature team, developing relationships with colleagues internally as well as commissioning external freelance contributors.

You will be working across different platforms, including (but not limited to) print and digital magazines, news aggregators (Apple News, Samsung, Google Discover, etc), podcasts and websites.

You will have a great eye for a story, a clear sense of what will resonate with different audiences, and the creativity to craft compelling angles that help content thrive across all our platforms.

Your experience editing features and conducting interviews will allow you to create great content, be that magazine features, podcast episodes or long-form articles that will hit on Apple News.

A dynamic and adaptable team player, you're comfortable working to deadlines and adjusting priorities when needed to jump on a timely story, while helping the team stay focused and on track.

Reporting to the Group Editor, you’ll manage your own workflow alongside wider team planning.

For a full list of responsibilities, please see the job description attached.

  • You will be bursting with ideas, and passionate about telling stories

  • Articulate and with an excellent grasp of how best to communicate across different brands and platforms, and to a wide variety of audiences
  • Collaborative and self-motivated, with experience working across teams and with external contributors
  • Organised, dependable, and very comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Analytical mindset – responsive to trends and audience insights, using data to shape content decisions
  • A passion for wildlife and the countryside. A belief that our nature brands can and should play a bigger part in the international conversation around issues affecting nature, wildlife and conservation

Desirable

  • A strong understanding of natural history
  • Experienced in publishing for specialist interest brands
  • An understanding of what makes a great wildlife photograph, or photo story

  • Season ticket loan
  • Hybrid working pattern, flexi start/finish time
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, plus Christmas closure, plus your birthday off
