Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS organisation in Scotland to help recruit 3 x Consultants in Old Age Psychiatry on a Locum FTC basis for 12 months initially. They are based in a thriving city with a multicultural population with significant historic architectural presence.
Old Age Psychiatry Services are delivered by three City teams, four local region teams, and two multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Teams. These teams are currently led by five Consultants in the City and five Consultants in the local region. Most inpatient facilities are centred at the main Hospital with the local regional teams spending some time at outlying hospital settings where we have a limited number of assessment beds.
The Consultant will be responsible for the provision of the Old Age Psychiatry service based in the designated area, linked to 5 General Practices with a registered population of circa 10,000 aged over 65. The Consultant will be supported by training grade doctors who rotate through the Directorate and/or Career Grade Doctors and team-aligned Social Work/Care Managers. This post also has a 0.5 WTE Staff Grade Doctor aligned to it.
The consultant will be expected to:
Patients under the age of 65 with organic brain disorder may become the responsibility of the Old Age Psychiatry clinical teams by mutual agreement with other clinical services. Transfer of older patients to the service is arranged on a case-by-case basis in negotiation with General Adult services.
The appointee will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours Consultant on-call rota. This will involve being on-call overnight or on weekend days no more than one in sixteen, reduced pro rata in accordance with sessional commitment, if applicable. On weekend days, the on-call Consultant attends a handover meeting at 09.00 am and shares with the on-call Senior Trainee assessment of patients admitted in the previous twenty-four hours.
Our Client is happy to issue Certificate of Sponsorships to suitably qualified overseas doctors. GMC registration and relevant experience is essential for this position.
