Qualifications

• MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
• FRCS (Urology) or equivalent.
• Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months) or CESR.

Responsabilités

• Provide independent consultant-level care and continuous patient management.
• Manage a full range of urological conditions with elective and emergency care.
• Deliver outpatient and day case activity for children and young people.
• Contribute to the out-of-hours on-call rota.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
• Support education and supervision of junior medical staff and other staff involved in patient care.
• Undertake administrative responsibilities for safe and effective clinical practice.
• Develop enhanced clinical skills in assessing and managing acutely ill patients.
• Work effectively within a multi-professional team.
• Deliver clinical and quality targets agreed with clinical teams and commissioners.
• Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

A substantive consultant urological surgeon post at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, based mainly at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with cover across both sites. The surgeon will manage a full range of urological conditions, delivering elective and emergency care independently, including outpatient and day case work for children and young people. The post combines general urology with a subspecialist paediatric interest, and out-of-hours on-call is central to the role. Candidates need GMC Specialist Register entry and documented experience in paediatric surgery or paediatric urology.

What’s required

Qualifications

• MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
• FRCS (Urology) or equivalent

Registration & licences

• Full GMC registration and licence to practise
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR

Experience

• Experience in paediatric surgery
• Experience working within a paediatric surgical or paediatric urology service
• Experience managing a range of paediatric urology conditions

Skills & knowledge

• Familiarity with family-centred care and paediatric communication standards
• Understanding of paediatric safeguarding requirements
