This full-time role includes a commitment to trauma duties, medical education, and engagement in multidisciplinary work. Job summary
This post is for a permanent whole time (10 Programmed Activities) Consultant specialising in Veterans hip and knee arthroplasty and trauma.
There is the option of increasing the number of programmed activities should the applicant wish. One day each week is spent at RSH performing trauma duties. In addition, there is a 1:12 on-call rota. The remainder of the week is spent at RJAH fulfilling Veterans arthroplasty duties.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will be part of the existing RJAH arthroplasty department and will be expected to take an enthusiastic role in the department's overall development and activities.
The successful candidate will need to deal with a wide variety of adult and paediatric trauma. This includes infections, periarticular fractures requiring frames, and the initial assessment of spinal emergencies. The post has a major commitment to medical education and training. This includes all grades of doctors from FY1 to senior specialist registrars.
Each morning there is an MDT which starts at 08:00hrs. The MDT involves orthopaedic consultants, doctors, orthogeriaticians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and managers.
There is a consultant led trauma list each morning. The brief is at 08:30hrs. Consultants are expected to be competent in all general orthopaedic trauma.
Each morning there is an on-call fracture clinic performed by the on-call consultant. Each consultant also has their own fracture clinic which takes place weekly.
The on-call rota is a 1:12. The weekends and week are split.
This post requires a colleague to be committed to trauma, well suited to multidisciplinary work, engaged with audit and governance, and driven to developing the trauma service.
