Barts Health NHS Trust The Royal London Hospital Consultant in Stroke Medicine(10 PAs)We are looking for an exceptional Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our dynamic and highly skilled multidisciplinary team at The Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. Our Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (12 monitored beds) and Acute Stroke Unit (14 beds) provide cutting-edge thrombolysis, thrombectomy, and rehabilitation services to patients across east London and beyond. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality hyper acute and acute stroke care, supporting outpatient TIA and follow-up clinics, and contributing to service development, research, and teaching. Main duties of the job

To share responsibility for providing evidence-based standards of care for all inpatients and outpatients

To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients Charter and the local purchasers' contracts. To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services and all healthcare agencies. To encourage and foster the governance process at clinical, managerial and medical levels and to take part in regional audit in support of evidence-based medicine. The trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD)as laid down by the GMC and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

The trust also has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all surgeons have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports doctors going through the revalidation process.

The trust also offers a mentorship scheme to all new consultants to help them settle into work as easily as possible which will be available on appointment. To participate fully in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the General Managers, Clinical Leads and Clinical Directors.

Job responsibilities

To provide a Consultant-led comprehensive hyper acute and acute stroke service in partnership with the rest of the Consultant team. To participate in the Stroke & Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy Consultant on call rota at The Royal London. To share in the provision of outpatient TIA services together with other members of the consultant team. To support the Stroke Clinical Lead and Clinical Director in advancing service developments and improvements. To aid and facilitate the rapid transfer of stroke patients from Barts Health to other Acute Stroke Units along the relevant pathway. To be actively involved in stroke research by enrolling patients in currently opened trials (national and international research studies as part of the National Stroke Research Network and the NIHR portfolio) as well as promoting new studies on site.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • CCT in Stroke Medicine
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a full licence to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in one of the Stroke Medicine parent specialities (i.e. Geriatrics, Neurology, Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacology, Rehabilitation Medicine), via one of the following
  • a) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT - proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
  • b) Certificate of eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

Desirable

  • Higher Degree (MSc, Md or PhD)

Experience

Essential

  • Stroke Medicine experience (at equivalent level to Stroke CCT
  • Ability to practice independently as a Consultant in Hyper Acute Stroke and Stroke Rehabilitation.
  • Teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Audit experience
  • Thrombolysis & Thrombectomy experience

  • Experience of multidisciplinary Stroke services
  • Research experience
  • GCP Certificate
