Job description

Stantec has an exciting opportunity for an Energy & Sustainability Consultant / Senior Consultant to join our dynamic Building Performance team in Reading.

Do you have a passion for sustainability? Are you up for the challenge of creating efficient buildings, heat networks, and reducing operational energy with social value, responding creatively to the needs of people, places, and the environment?

We are currently seeking an Energy & Sustainability Consultant / Senior Consultant to join us. This is an opportunity to join a reputable group with a strong forward workload. We have been at the heart of local communities across the country for many years and are now looking to expand further.

Our projects include a wide range of public and private opportunities nationally and internationally, including significant developments, educational buildings, commercial and industrial properties, and regeneration projects—from small-scale local schemes to larger national frameworks. We also assist clients in reducing their scope 3 carbon emissions.

You will play an important role within our team, supporting the creation of energy models and the production of sustainability and energy strategies to help our clients make informed decisions about their buildings and energy systems. Your role will be varied and challenging, offering opportunities to learn from the wider group and advance your career.

Not least, you will be joining the Consulting Firm of the Year at the 2023 NCE Awards, recognized for our market success, as well as our focus on people and culture!

About You

The ideal candidate will hold a university degree in a relevant subject such as physics, geography, chemistry, or engineering (building services or mechanical), with an MSc in areas like Sustainability or Environmental Management considered advantageous but not essential. You should be capable of translating both abstract concepts and detailed technical requirements into clear, practical solutions, and be enthusiastic about research, self-directed learning, and data-driven approaches.

Strong communication skills, particularly in report writing and presentations, are essential. The role requires experience with key software tools including IESVE (especially ApacheHVAC and overheating analysis), SAP and/or SBEM for building fabric analysis, and OneClick LCA for embodied carbon assessment. Familiarity with CFD, hydraulic and energy network modelling, microgrid analysis, renewable energy modelling, Python for data analysis, and data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau is beneficial. A solid understanding of SBTi, UK building regulations (e.g., Parts L, O, S, F, CP1), and sustainability assessment frameworks like BREEAM or NABERS UK is also important.

Why Join Us?

The friendly and collaborative culture at Stantec is something we are proud of. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, flexible and hybrid working arrangements, industry-leading training, excellent career development prospects, and engaging projects.
