Job description

NHS Highland
Raigmore Hospital, Inverness

0.719WTE Substantive

Consultant Respiratory and General Physician

£107,144 - £142,369 per annum pro rata

(Inclusive of 1.19PA Acute Medical Receiving based Belford Hospital)

Due to a realignment of current PAs with the Respiratory Consultant team, we have an opportunity for a 0.719WTE Consultant Respiratory Physician, based at Raigmore Hospital (inclusive of 1PA Acute Medical Receiving at the Belford Hospital, Fort William). Applicants require to have CCT in either Respiratory or General Medicine.

There is an established team of medical staff, specialist nurses and AHPs who collectively deliver services covering sleep/NIV, TB, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, ILD, airways management and a pleural procedure service.

This post works on a 1:10 ward cover (including a Saturday morning) and shares the week with another consultant when allocated to the ward, with an allocated half-day in-lieu for covering the weekend. The other weeks, the postholder works a second consultant rota (covering IURs, e-vetting and Consultant point of contact) and separately, covers outpatient clinics and potentially a bronchoscopy list. It is challenging to deliver high quality health care to patients living in remote locations but the support of community respiratory nurses strongly supports our rural areas.

The Highlands offer a unique environment for a variety of leisure activities, and good schools and facilities for families.

This post is offered as 7.19 Programmed Activities per week, the details of which are indicated in the job description and job plan. Applications from individuals, who wish to work LTFT, or work flexibly, are welcome.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for General Medicine, or Respiratory Medicine, and with a Licence to Practise or be within 6 months of being eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register at the time of interview.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Edward Paterson, Consultant Respiratory Physician, edward.paterson@nhs.scot or Dr Duncan Scott, Clinical Director for Medicine, duncan.scott2@nhs.scot or Mrs Morag MacLeay, Service Manager, morag.macleay@nhs.scot

Applications should be made via https://apply.jobs.scot.nhs.uk/.

Closing Date: 12/08/2025

Interview Date: MS14 22546
