Job description

The radiology department is a thriving, cohesive team seeking Consultant Radiologists with subspecialty interests including Chest, Head and Neck/Neuroradiology, Musculoskeletal, and Vascular Interventional Radiology. The post will provide additional specialist reporting to support and develop Trust imaging services, with flexibility to accommodate the successful applicant's interests. Duties include general and specialist MRI and CT reporting, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and support for specialist MDTs. Vascular Interventional Radiology candidates will also undertake vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures. The role includes acute general work within a dedicated CT and MRI reporting hub, plus a two-hour weekly duty radiologist session. Diagnostic Radiology on-call is currently 1 in 15, covering 5pm-9pm weekdays and 9am-9pm weekends, with external cover outside these hours and occasional remote cover by the post holder. Most shifts are supported by a radiology registrar. Interventional Radiology on-call is currently 1 in 6 and is expected to reduce with further appointments. Further details are available on request. The post can be based at one of the two main acute hospital sites situated in York or Scarborough. There is an expectation to provide onsite clinical cover at both of these sites from the Consultant Radiologist workforce (currently approximately one day per fortnight at the none base site; travel time between sites included in the remuneration package). Acute CT and MRI reporting is dealt with by a team based within a dedicated acute reporting hub allowing cross-cover and subspecialty support. All Radiologists have a short weekly session as the duty radiologist to support general vetting and radiographer queries. Protected subspecialist reporting sessions are job planned and tailored to sub speciality interests, but might include: diagnostic ultrasound, fluoroscopy, MRI and CT lists, with intervention based on specialty and alongside both cancer and non-cancer MDTs. The current radiology team have an excellent reputation for providing high quality reports and specialist opinions. It is a supportive and nurturing department with high rates of retention and job satisfaction.
