Job description

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a General Radiologist with a specialist interest – sub specialty is flexible to fit in with the needs of the Trust and the applicant’s interests.

We invite you to join a team of 27 Radiologists providing diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Service for North Lancashire and South Cumbria. We contribute to the workload of the department, including CT, US, MRI and plain film reporting and participate in the on call rota (1:16). We outsource on call work from 8 pm (weekdays) and 5 pm (weekend and Bank holidays) to provide a more palatable and sustainable working pattern.

We have good admin support, highly integrated voice recognition and an active programme to refresh equipment. (3 new CT scanners, 2 new MR scanners and 6 new US machines in the last 4 years). The PACS has been upgraded to a state of the art SECTRA system . A new SPECT CT system was recently installed at FGH with plans for a similar replacement in Nuclear Medicine at the RLI.

Whilst remaining general Radiologists, we all sub-specialise to a greater or lesser degree and report a share of general work whilst also working collaboratively to cover specific tumour work and other sub-specialties across the whole trust from our individual bases using a single PACS system. A shared contribution to the general work of the department would be expected from the successful applicant.

Opportunities exist to develop or maintain an interest in teaching, development and research

Come and join our friendly, enthusiastic and dynamic department on the doorstep of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Enjoy a four day working week and 2.5 SPA on appointment, living in the most beautiful scenery England has to offer and enjoying affordable houses, fantastic state schools while only being 2½ hours from London, Glasgow or Edinburgh, and an hour from Manchester.

If you want to achieve a great work/life balance using new equipment while living in one of the safest, least congested and most beautiful parts of the country come and check us out.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay
