Job description
Overview

The radiology department is expanding its Consultant Radiologist workforce with a vacancy for a Consultant Radiologist with sub-speciality training in musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology. The post provides additional specialist MSK reporting and interventions to support and develop imaging services within the Trust. The post holder will work closely with the existing radiologists and the role can be flexible to fit the applicant’s interests.

The post holder will contribute to all aspects of MSK diagnostic work and interventions, including reporting cross-sectional MSK CT and MRI, performing and interpreting diagnostic ultrasound, therapeutic musculoskeletal injections (ultrasound and fluoroscopy) and CT-guided bone biopsies. Candidates would be expected to regularly support the rheumatology MDT and assist the Spinal Infection and Arthroplasty MDT.

Responsibilities
  • Provide MSK reporting and intervention work, including cross-sectional MSK CT and MRI reporting, diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided injections, and CT-guided bone biopsies.
  • Support and contribute to rheumatology MDT and Spinal Infection and Arthroplasty MDT meetings.
  • Based at York with sessions at Scarborough (approximately one day per fortnight).
  • General reporting for acute and cold cases; participate in the on-call rota; contribute to the acute reporting hub-driven workflow; all radiologists have a weekly/duty session.
  • Commitment to acute general work in the department; on-call frequency currently 1 in 15; on-call radiologist hours are 5–9pm weekdays and 9am–9pm weekends; outsourcing covers out-of-hours on-call; radiology registrar support is common for on-call periods.
  • Teaching and training responsibilities; contribute to radiology trainee education from West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire (HYMS involvement) and undergraduate teaching; opportunities to develop a teaching role if desired.
  • Collaboration with Scarborough site as needed, with on-site presence typically up to once per fortnight depending on specialty and mutual agreement with the successful candidate.
Location and Working Arrangements

The post is based in York with occasional sessions in Scarborough. The department participates in a dedicated acute reporting hub for CT and MRI, supporting shared expertise and interesting cases.
