Job description

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

We would like to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic Radiologist who wishes to develop their career in a department that is traditionally friendly, harmonious and supportive. This is a substantive full-time appointment to support Imaging services across UHDB. The post is based at UHDB, mainly split between two major sites with acute care facilities (RDH and QHB).

Following expansion of our services associated with our Community Diagnostic Centres, we are looking to appoint Consultant Radiologists across multiple sub-speciality interests, in General Body, Neuro and MSK Imaging. The appointed candidate will work with a team of established specialist radiologists providing diagnostic imaging expertise in Radiology. UHDB currently has 54 Consultant Radiologists (part and full time) and 18 Specialty Registrars on rotation from Nottingham and Leicester. The appointed consultant is expected to cover general reporting in addition to their sub-speciality work and participate on the diagnostic on-call rota at the Royal Derby Hospital. The on-call work will be supported by a cross-site team of radiographers who report plain films and MSK MRI.

The post attracts 10 PAs (8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA) with the possibility of part-time working arrangements. There is opportunity for additional PAs for dedicated medical student funded teaching. New Consultants are encouraged to support the Radiology Academy teaching programme using a purpose-built Academy. We promote flexible working; most Consultants have a four-day job plan and many have home reporting workstations to facilitate work-life balance. There is scope for a mutually beneficial job plan across the team.

We are a large cross-site imaging department offering all imaging modalities with modern up-to-date scanners (10 MRI and 11 CTs) located at our main sites and community diagnostic centres. Facilities include 5 fluoroscopy rooms, with 2 dedicated interventional suites and a hybrid theatre. The Trust Imaging Department also provides imaging services at seven community hospitals throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire. Three of these will be designated as Community Diagnostic Centres with developments to include new CT (routine and Cardiac), MRI, U/S training academy, DeXA and X-Ray.

As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners to achieve the best health outcomes for the local population and communities by providing Exceptional Care Together.

Our fundamental values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we work and are embedded in all aspects of our activities.

What we offer
  • Development opportunities including professional and leadership development.
  • Ongoing support through every step of the way from recruitment to joining the team and beyond.
  • A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car schemes.
Key facts about our Trust

  • We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.

In addition to specialist interests, all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust, including:

  • Active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars, and medical students.
