Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

This is a full time substantive consultant appointment for a general radiologist with an interest in breast imaging.

The post will be based at the West Middlesex site.

The 10 PA contract comprises 8.5 DCC sessions and up to 1.5 SPA sessions.

The successful candidate will have access to secretarial/administrator support from the Imaging department administrative/PA team. They will also have access to dedicated working office space within the radiology department where they will be able to base themselves and be part of the wider radiology team.

Main duties of the job

The job plan will be based on a 4 day week, includes sessions dedicated to general cross sectional and acute reporting so it is essential for the prospective candidate to be able to report body CT and general MRI. Other sessions will be dedicated to mammography, breast ultrasound and US-guided biopsies. The successful candidate will also be expected to partake in the breast one stop clinic and breast MDT. There is scope to support the vacuum assisted breast biopsy emerging service.

The new appointee will participate in the diagnostic on call rota covering the WM site.

The proposed job plan will be subject to change to allow for any future extended 7-day service requirement and provision of services across the entire Trust.

The applicant is expected to be on the Specialist register of the GMC, or within 6 months of CCT, and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Radiation Protection is a paramount responsibility. It will be a requirement to ensure patient, staff and public safety by compliance with local policies and with appropriate legislation and professional standards.

Provide High Quality Care to Patients

The post holder must adhere to the standards outlined by the GMC for Good Medical Practice.

Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

Research, Teaching and Training

  • Provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as agreed with the Service Lead. To contribute to training and teaching of medical trainees, medical students, other doctors in training and other staff groups.
  • Act as a clinical supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director/Service Lead to ensure external accreditation of training post.
  • Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trusts translational research/audit portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
  • Ensure that your mandatory training is up to date as per Trust policy.
  • The Trust expects all consultants to participate fully in continuing professional development to ensure that skills and knowledge are updated in line with relevant medical developments. Consultants may apply to the study leave budget for help with associated expenses in line with the terms and conditions of their contract. In addition consultants will be expected to undertake some non-clinical training and development at the discretion of the trust management, for example, Leadership Training.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date if Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC))
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register OR eligible within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
  • Achieved Fellowship of Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR)
  • Experience in teaching medical trainees and other NHS professionals

Desirable

  • Higher Degree
  • Additional related qualifications e.g. BSc, BA
  • Teaching/ education qualification
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Children as per intercollegiate document.

  • Understanding of business planning and hospital contracting
