Overview

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two Consultant Psychologist roles at HMP & YOI Feltham. Roles could be taken together: 0.2 wte Consultant Psychologist in HMP Feltham B (adult male estate) and 0.6 wte Consultant Psychologist YOI Feltham A (Children and Young People). The roles will run until the end of December 2026. The closing date is 06 October 2025.

We are looking for applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic psychologists who are committed to delivering and leading high-quality trauma-informed care and treatment. The role includes leadership for the Sexual Behaviour service, the Enhanced Support Unit, and Clinical Leadership for SECURE STAIRS (Framework for Integrated Care designed to engage and meet the complex needs of the children in HMP/YOI Feltham A).

Main duties of the job

Support the mental health provision including group and individual therapy at HMP/YOI Feltham; actively support the implementation of service models including Secure STAIRS for Feltham A and the provision of mental health InReach services in Feltham B.

Supervision, service consultation, and delivering therapy and assessments as well as supporting continued professional development of teams. Join the trust-wide H&J Consultant Psychologist team and share responsibility for governance of services and shaping Health & Justice services. At HMP/YOI Feltham you will be part of the healthcare senior management team and contribute to health interface with the wider prison and development of this service.

Job responsibilities

Lead, manage and plan the delivery of a highly specialist psychology and psychotherapy service according to service models (including Secure StaIRS for Feltham A) for men and children detained in HMP/YOI Feltham; provide expert clinical input.

Be responsible to the Lead Psychologist of the Health & Justice Directorate for monitoring and implementing professional standards in applied psychology and psychotherapy; ensure provision of effective supervision.

Contribute to creating a psychologically safe environment for staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds.

Ensure conduct of research, service evaluation and audits relevant to psychology and therapy services in HMP Feltham B and YOI Feltham A, and contribute to the Trust/specialty research agenda.

Maintain good clinical governance, quality, and appropriateness of work of psychologists and psychotherapists in HMP/YOI Feltham.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
  • Entry-level qualification in Clinical, Forensic or Clinical Psychology (doctoral or equivalent) accepted by HCPC for professional registration.
  • Post-qualification training in a specialised area of psychological practice relevant to healthcare psychology in a criminal justice setting, via PG Diploma or equivalent, or equivalent supervised practice portfolio assessed as equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma.
  • Completed training in clinical supervision.
  • Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist with ongoing CPD.
  • Attendance at relevant management training courses and events.
  • Accreditation as a supervisor in a psychological therapy (e.g., EMDR, CBT, DBT, SFT, MBT).
Experience
  • Evidence of working as a clinical specialist under supervision in forensic mental health, criminal justice, or specialist youth settings.
  • Experience in leadership roles and specialist psychological assessment and treatment for complex needs in forensic or youth settings with risk management.
  • Experience supervising assistant and trainee psychologists; experience teaching/training professionals.
  • Experience addressing diversity within local communities; post-qualification experience in research, audit or service evaluation; proposing and implementing service development projects; participation in recruitment.
  • Experience in working in a specialist sexual behaviour service; publications in peer-reviewed journals/books; developing trauma-informed approaches within a system.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of management and leadership theories and practice.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychological therapies for adults and young people with complex needs and high risk.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychopathology and trauma treatment in prison settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics; legislation relating to mental health, child and adult protection, and equality.
  • Doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology and complex statistics.
  • Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.
