Job description

Job overview

Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) provide multi-disciplinary assessment, treatment, and care for individuals with severe and enduring mental health problems. They serve individuals aged 16 to 70 with diagnosed functional mental health issues.

Main duties of the job

Clinical role

  • Undertake assessments of referrals and admissions to the service.
  • Diagnose and formulate management plans for complex presentations.
  • Manage treatment-resistant and complex cases.
  • Assess and manage risks, including vulnerability, suicide, health and safety, and harm to others.
  • Prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers’ Hearings, and attend hearings.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Partner with psychiatrists from external providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.

Leadership role

  • Lead clinical decision-making within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care.
  • Develop clinical priorities aligned with national and professional standards.
  • Participate in service transformation initiatives, including attending consultant meetings.
