Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist

Service Line: Male PICU

Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director

Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager

We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cynet Hospital Bury Dunes, providing senior medical cover on our specialist Male Acute ward.

White House is Cygnet Bury Dunes's 18-bed male acute service. The service offers a safe and stabilising environment for men experiencing an acute episode of mental illness requiring emergency admission.

The ethos of our service focuses on assessing and treating individuals in the least restrictive environment, with robust and timely discharge planning. We aim to support individuals in managing their mental health, reinforcing daily living skills, and preparing for independent life back in the community.

The post holder will serve as the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients as required. They will also be responsible for auditing medical services to ensure quality standards in line with GMC guidelines and other professional standards.

Your expertise will drive life-changing treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the provision of high-quality care to service users admitted to South Hampton ward.
  2. Act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors, and staff.
  3. Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  4. Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations of service users.
  5. Undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment.
  6. Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits.
  7. Lead risk assessments, risk management, and embed clinical governance.
  8. Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers' hearings; attend hearings.
  9. Liaise with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave approvals.
  10. Maintain accurate patient records.
  11. Ensure regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
  12. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders, maintaining appropriate reports.
  13. Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD as set by GMC, the Department of Health, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  14. Contribute to the telephone on-call rota as scheduled.
