Job description

Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist at Parkview Clinic, Tier 4 Inpatient CAMHS Service. This is a full-time 10 PA post in inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

The closing date is 08 November 2025

The post holder will join the CAMHS In-patient service at Parkview Clinic in Moseley, Birmingham and will be responsible for treating children and young people up to the age of 18. The Trust has a brand new state of the art 14 bedded GAU and has recently refurbished an 8 bedded unit, along with a 12 bedded Specialist Eating Disorder unit.

The post holder will provide senior specialist psychiatric input and medical leadership within an established multidisciplinary in-patient team and have a central role in delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for in-patients and their families, as well as contributing to psychiatric and medical risk management. The consultant psychiatrist will support the in-patient team, medical lead and other professional leads with quality improvement and clinical governance activities.

Responsibilities and duties

Overview

The post holder will hold overall clinical/medical responsibility and review patients at a frequency appropriate to their clinical need and risk.

Provide direct psychiatric services through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, care planning, treatment formulation, and guidance on evidence-based treatment and outcomes.

Provide psychiatric leadership to multidisciplinary teams and clinical leadership in collaboration with team leaders.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.

The post holder will be required to be approved under Section 12(2) and hold Approved Clinician status of the Mental Health Act, to undertake assessments and use the Act as appropriate.

Flexibility to shape and respond to changing service requirements.

Participate in service and business planning for the Mental Health Service.

Qualifications (Person Specification)
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent (or within 6 months of eligibility for CCT)
  • Current GMC registration (or eligible for full registration at time of appointment)
  • Experience in child and adolescent psychiatry including tier 4 experience
  • GMC Licence to practise
  • Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Experience in providing high-quality mental health services as a trainee or consultant
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with assessment, treatment, and medical monitoring of patients and families
  • Ability to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework and share leadership responsibilities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships within a complex referral system
  • Commitment to personal and professional development and quality improvement
  • Ability to manage duties under the MHA, including assessment of patients in Place of Safety detained under Section 136
  • Experience with complex mental disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, emotional trauma and emerging personality disorders
  • Experience with clinical governance and audit
  • Ability to supervise and train junior medical staff
  • Evidence of research activity and an interest in participating in ongoing research projects
