An exciting opportunity to work as an inpatient old age consultant psychiatrist in a male dementia assessment unit You will provide senior expertise in the assessment and treatment of adults over age 65 years presenting cognitive impairment and comorbid conditions. The post holder will work with colleagues of other professional disciplines (ward manager, clinical lead, nurse consultant, social worker, OT, pharmacist) to provide a tailored multidisciplinary package of assessment and of treatment.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to hold RC responsibility for patients admitted to the unit. You will provide medical leadership to the MDT. The role provides excellent opportunity in being a leader and work on improving pathways for patients within the service.

You will be supported by a medical secretary. We are looking for applicants based anywhere in the UK to explore exciting new opportunities in remote and digital working.

This is a substantive post however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis.

Job responsibilities

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status.

Qualifications
  • Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion or included within six months of CCT
  • Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Possess a CCT or (equivalence) in old age Psychiatry
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
  • Up to date knowledge and high level of clinical skills and competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in learning disability population
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner
  • Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post
  • An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
  • Experience in multi-agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
  • Established record of clinical leadership
  • Established ability as a clinical teacher
  • Training in specific and relevant treatment skills eg a brief form of psychological therapy
  • Experience in service management or development
