Consultant Psychiatrist in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry - North Core
Main Duties of the Post
- The post-holder will provide medical leadership to the North CAMHS team within the Integrated Children's Service, working closely with consultant colleagues in CAMHS and Paediatrics, CAMHS MDTs, and Managers.
- The post-holder will provide Consultant Psychiatrist level clinical assessment and treatment to children and young people with general psychiatric disorders at City Care Centre, Peterborough, approximately 1 new case per week.
- The post holder will mainly work with the Core North team. Considerations can be made if the post holder wishes to allocate some PAs to work with the Neurodevelopmental team (ADHD pathway).
- Attend and help shape team meetings to ensure robust clinical governance activities, including appropriate CPD slots, arranged by the Team Manager in collaboration with senior clinicians.
- Link with the Home Treatment team and the crisis team, supporting IST workers to formulate cases and plan patient care as the patients' Tier 3 consultant.
- Allocate 2.5 Programmed Activities (or pro-rata) for CPD, audit, clinical governance, supervision, research, and other supporting professional activities. Of this, 1.5 PA (or pro-rata) is mandatory, with an additional PA allocated for supporting professional activities that benefit professional development and service quality.
- Participate in a termly CPD event. Engage in activities such as ethics committee participation, clinical audit, NICE implementation, and other governance roles.
- Contribute to the training of Core, Specialty, and GP trainees, including supervising as their Consultant Supervisor. The role involves training GPs in Secondary Care if opportunities arise.
- Contribute to the daytime Duty Consultant rota with colleagues and ensure coverage for urgent assessments and advice in CAMHS and paediatric wards.
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota (currently 1 in 8), providing advice and supervision to doctors in training and duty CAMHS practitioners, including responding promptly to calls and attending hospitals if needed.
- Contribute to teaching and training of trainees, medical students, and MDT members. Opportunities exist to undertake the role of Clinical and Educational Supervisor.
- Access admin support via the Peterborough Admin Hub, with dedicated administrators for Core and Neurodevelopmental services.
- Provide occasional consultation to multi-agency colleagues and attend to safeguarding needs per standards.
- Maintain high-quality clinical records and participate in administrative duties related to patient care and service management.
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain service continuity during absences.
