Job Description:

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a child and adolescent consultant psychiatrist to become involved in transformation and leadership within a forward-looking CAMHS service. We are keen to shape the post to fit the needs of the right applicant and to support them in developing their interests within our broad portfolio of services.

Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services work with children and young people up to the age of 18 across Getting Help, Getting More Help, and neurodevelopmental assessment teams. The teams are closely linked with LD CAMHS, Eating Disorders, and Forensic CAMHS. The out-of-hours activity is supported by a dedicated CAMHS crisis team, operating 24/7, providing extended crisis input and home treatment options as alternatives to hospital admissions.

The Hartlepool CAMHS Getting More Help team is based at Dover House in Hartlepool, with good public transport links and free parking outside the building.

Hartlepool has a population of about 93,000, with approximately 25% being children under 18.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing and managing the mental and behavioral needs of children and young people with mental disorders and neurodevelopmental needs.

Opportunities are available to become a GMC-registered trainer and clinical or educational supervisor.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will offer mental health assessments, psychiatric opinions, diagnoses, and holistic care plans for patients up to 18 years old, both during working hours and on call. The Trust expects about 2 new patient assessments per week and around 650 face-to-face contacts annually, with variations depending on workload and job planning.

Direct patient contact includes new patients, assessments, and reviews.

Clinical work will mainly be at Dover House but may occur in other settings, such as schools or community locations, based on patient needs and preferences.

The post holder should be Section 12 approved, preferably with Approved Clinician status, with support from the Trust to obtain these if not already held.

Minimum of 8 hours of clinical supervision per year is required, which can be face-to-face or remote via MS Teams, with support from the Lead Psychiatrist to secure a Clinical Supervisor.
