Currently under review by the Royal College, this established post is within the Rehabilitation & High Support Directorate (RHSD), covering a 10-bedded male PICU.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Taking clinical responsibility for in-patients and leading the multidisciplinary team.
  2. Ensuring all documentation (including Section 17 leave, Consent/Treatment, section renewal forms) is correct and up-to-date.
  3. Providing reports for Manager’s Appeals or Tribunals within required timeframes, with either Consultant attendance or adequate representation.
  4. Maintaining approval as an Approved Clinician and under Section 12 of The MHA 1983 (amended 2007).

Key duties involve:

  • Providing advice on urgent referrals, undertaking face-to-face assessments for complex cases, including referrals from prison services.
  • Assessing the clinical state of inpatients and participating in psychological and family-based therapies, depending on training and interests.
  • Attending Care Programme Approach meetings and weekly Clinical Team Meetings, often chairing these meetings.
  • Consulting with families and carers respecting confidentiality.
  • Supervising junior doctors, conducting workplace-based assessments, and appraising their performance.
  • Participating in clinical governance, audits, and adhering to Trust policies on complaints, risk management, and confidentiality.
  • Maintaining professional development, including CPD, registration, and GMC license, with support from the Trust.
  • Contributing to teaching and CPD events, attending case conferences, audits, and seminars.
  • Engaging in service development and liaising with stakeholders like GPs.
  • Participating in the Tameside Hospital on-call rota (currently 1:11), providing advice and assessments as needed, with upcoming changes to the rota schedule.
  • Contributing to quality improvement projects and assessing new referrals to the RHS hub.
