Consultant Psychiatrist & Deputy Medical Director

Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist
Service Line: Female Personality Disorders
Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager

We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, providing senior medical cover on Roseacre Ward, our 16-bed personality disorder service for women. We are offering a £3,000 welcome bonus for this role!

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients as required, and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward, ensuring their quality in accordance with GMC standards and other relevant professional guidelines.

This role offers an opportunity for a Responsible Clinician looking to expand in management as a Deputy Medical Director, as well as gaining clinical experience across all wards, with initial focus on Roseacre Ward.

Cygnet Hospital Maidstone is a state-of-the-art, 63-bed mental health facility located in the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone. Roseacre Ward provides a care pathway for service users preparing to step down to community living, employing a recovery-focused model aimed at supporting service users to manage their mental health, develop coping strategies, and prepare for independent living.

Your expertise will be crucial in delivering life-changing treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists. There is also an opportunity to progress to Medical Director level through our management schemes.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Lead the provision of high-quality care to service users on Roseacre Ward.
  2. Act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  3. Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  4. Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations.
  5. Undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment.
  6. Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits.
  7. Lead risk assessment, risk management, and embed clinical governance.
  8. Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and hearings.
  9. Liaise with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave approvals.
  10. Maintain accurate patient records.
  11. Communicate regularly with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
  12. Engage with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders through effective communication.
  13. Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD.
  14. Contribute to the Telephone On-call rota.
