Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist

Service Line: Female Personality Disorders

Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director

Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager

We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, providing senior medical cover on Roseacre Ward, a 16-bed personality disorder service for women.

We offer a £3,000 welcome bonus for this role!

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining care for all ward inpatients, and will be responsible for auditing medical services to ensure quality in accordance with GMC standards and other professional guidelines.

This role offers an opportunity for a Responsible Clinician interested in expanding into management as a Deputy Medical Director, alongside clinical development across wards, initially focusing on Roseacre Ward.

Cygnet Hospital Maidstone is a state-of-the-art, 63-bed mental health facility located in the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone.

Roseacre Ward provides a care pathway for service users preparing to transition to community living, using a recovery-focused model to support mental health management, coping strategies, daily living skills, and independent living preparation.

Your expertise will drive life-changing treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead high-quality care provision on Roseacre Ward
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Take responsibility for treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
  • Undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits
  • Implement risk assessments, risk management, and embed clinical governance
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and hearings
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave approvals
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
  • Engage effectively with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders
  • Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD
  • Contribute to the Telephone On-call rota
