Job description

Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist – Community General Adult (NHS) – Greater Manchester
Salary: £93,666 – £126,281 per annum (NHS Consultant Pay Scale)
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time

Job Overview:

We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), delivering specialist care for adults aged 18-65 with complex mental health conditions. The service provides outpatient psychiatric care, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation across the Greater Manchester region.

Key Responsibilities:

As a psychiatrist, you will provide comprehensive outpatient assessments, reviewing medication efficacy and psychotherapy options, while managing a caseload of patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and personality disorders. You will offer consultation and clinical oversight to CPNs, therapists, and social workers within the multidisciplinary team, develop risk management plans, and support crisis intervention strategies. Additionally, you will supervise junior doctors, trainees, and multidisciplinary staff, engage in mental health law proceedings, including tribunals and CTO reviews, and contribute to service innovation, clinical audits, and teaching programs.

Requirements:

  • GMC registration with a CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Experience in community-based psychiatric care.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work across multi-agency settings.
