Job summary

The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to provide clinical support and inform ongoing implementation and practice in relation to the work of the Thames Valley FCAMHS team. The consultant psychiatrist will work closely in these matters with the clinical team lead, an experienced senior psychologist and the team manager. This will be in line with both the clinical and non-clinical functions outlined in the national service specification.The FCAMHS team offers a range of services and interventions to a specific geographical area, the 'Thames Valley'(Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire). The team provides specialist child and adolescent forensic mental health expertise at a variety of levels and to a variety of agencies, institutions and networks working with young people under 18 years old.

The community FCAMHS team is principally a tertiary referral service for locality CAMHS teams (including CAMHS/YOT link workers) and associated agencies. The team wishes to be accessible to all agencies (e.g. social services, youth offending teams (YOTs), prisons, courts, solicitors, education etc) which may have contact with young people with mental health difficulties who either present serious risk of harm to others or are involved with the criminal justice system. For this reason, initial contacts about possible referrals are welcomed from all agencies.

Main duties of the job

The multidisciplinary team functions on several levels in all environments:o As a resource for informationo As a means of formal consultationo As a service providing specialist assessments and interventionso As a training resource for front-line workerso As a means of informing and developing strategic links between mental health services and the criminal justice system.

Other functions within the regional FCAMHS role include:o Close liaison with related specialist services within CAMHS (harmful sexual behaviour, victims of sexual harm, Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion)o Liaison with locality CAMHS and YOTs and all agencies working to support young peopleo Liaison and advice to Criminal Courts and the criminal justice system including prisons and other secure settingso Linkage with national in-patient serviceso Linkage with services elsewhere involved in mental health provision to young people from the Thames Valley in secure or specialist educational or other settingso Informing policy and forming strong links with national organisations responsible for strategic developmento Providing professional training for individuals wishing to obtain the necessary experience to work in this area of expertiseo Clinical lead role within lead provider function for South Central FCAMHS
