Job Description:

We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Community Mental Health for West Wiltshire and Devizes (WWKD). This post is an existing post, which has become vacant due to the post-holder moving into a new post.

Main duties of the job

As the post holder, you will deliver direct interventions to service users at a level of intensity according to need, including those who require an assertive approach and are difficult to engage. This will include ongoing assessment, diagnoses (including review and clarification), and treatment of mental and physical health needs.

As the post holder, you will provide medical input and leadership to the WWKD CMHT with particular responsibility for patients from surgeries in Melksham and Trowbridge.

Additionally, you will:

  • Provide advice to members of the Multi-Disciplinary Teams in the WWKD CMHT and attend regular team MDT meetings.
  • Assess and treat outpatients in clinics.
  • Hold CPA meetings for outpatients.
  • Visit patients in their own residence if clinically indicated.
  • Liaise with other parts of the service, GPs, and non-NHS organizations where applicable.
  • Coordinate with Intensive and Inpatient services to facilitate smooth handovers.
  • Fulfill the Responsible Clinician role for patients under Community Treatment Orders.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Relevant higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • GMC registration with a license to practice at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Experience in assessing and treating patients in a community setting

Personal Skills

  • Leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Time management and workload prioritization skills
  • Excellent communication skills for working with patients, carers, and staff

Clinical Skills

  • Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in adults of working age and manage crises
  • Understanding of management skills required for a successful consultant

Teaching

  • Commitment and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Understanding of teaching principles

Research and Audit

  • Experience or involvement in research and publication
  • Experience in conducting audit projects
  • Leadership/management skills training evidence
