Job overview

This role offers the opportunity to demonstrate clinical expertise across various areas. It is well-supported, with a cohesive team including nurses, OTs, psychologists, assistant psychologists, and mental health wellbeing practitioners. There are opportunities for teaching, management, and quality improvement.

Staff are being trained in Open Dialogue, a new approach that has introduced a refreshing perspective for staff working in the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). This method is expected to improve wellbeing for both staff and patients.

Kent is a large county with a rich rural history and numerous historical sites. It has close links to London, providing an ideal setting for personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide medical input to patients under the care of the Community Mental Health Team, attend CPAs for enhanced patients, and offer urgent assessments and advice as needed.
  • Lead screening of new referrals to the team, rotating responsibilities among consultants.
  • Participate in service and team evaluation, and contribute to planning future service developments.
  • Empower the team to resolve local issues daily using quality improvement tools and methods.
  • Manage, appraise, and supervise junior medical staff, including assessing competencies under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
  • Engage in service and business planning activities for the locality and the wider mental health service.
  • Join the Consultant on-call rota, currently 1:30 non-residential, with a 3% category A supplement and additional PA in addition to 10 PA sessions.
