Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Harrow CAMHS (CNWL) (attracts £20K RRP)

We are currently looking for a full time (10 PA) Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work in our Neurodevelopmental team (8 APAs) and LD team (2 PAs) within Harrow CAMHS (CNWL).

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, innovative and dedicated Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with creative ideas for service development, keen to work with consultant colleagues and MDT clinicians to collaborate with paediatricians, schools, third sector organisations, children’s services and allied health professionals. We support flexible working.

Responsibilities
  • NDT – Provide psychiatric leadership to the Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT), supervise Band 7 nurses, and lead on the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders with psychiatric comorbidity and often high risk.
  • Offer consultation to CAMHS colleagues and direct assessment where indicated; run one outpatient clinic/week for medication management and complex case review.
  • Develop and lead innovative models for assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, including parent psychoeducation groups, medication initiation groups and collaboration with third sector partners.
  • Support, maintain and develop existing initiatives within the NDT.
  • Within the LD team, provide psychiatric assessments and reviews, oversee pharmacological treatment, and offer consultation/review for other MDT clinicians; support risk assessment and management.
  • Lead on risk assessment and management and provide expert advice as required; participate in transitions to Adult Services where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Education, Social Care, Paediatrics and other CAMHS services; contribute to Tier 4 liaison when indicated.
  • Collaborate with paediatric colleagues, schools, and third sector organisations to improve delivery and outcomes.
  • Provide clinical supervision to the team and contribute to medical governance and quality improvement activities.
LD
  • Provide psychiatric assessments and reviews within the LD team and oversee pharmacological treatment where appropriate.
  • Participate in LD referrals meetings and joint assessments for complex presentations or when medication is being considered.
  • Support case managers in risk assessment and liaise with paediatric colleagues for joint treatment planning.
  • Contribute to development of new service models (e.g. CETRs, DSR) and ensure NICE-guideline-based practice for young people with intellectual disability.
Qualifications and experience

Education and qualifications

  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • Approved Clinician status or willing to apply for approval
  • On GMC Specialist Register or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date

Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate qualification relevant to working with children and adolescents
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for CAMHS (or CCT expected within 6 months)

Experience, skills and abilities

  • Competence in psychopharmacology and non-medication therapies
  • Experience in assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders with psychiatric comorbidity, complex presentations and high risk
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Care Quality; able to participate in Medical Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Experience in teaching and supervision of junior staff
  • Desirable: experience with moderate/severe LD, management training, research and publications, ADI-R/ADOS training

  • Strong organizational skills; able to work on own initiative and under pressure
