Consultant Psychiatrist - ATS Community - Chichester (attracts RRP)

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to join our community Assessment and Treatment service team at The Chapel Street Clinic, Chichester, West Sussex. which is in the process of transformation into a Neighbourhood Mental Health Team (NMHT). This post completes the medical establishment of the team providing a minimum of 2.5 whole time equivalent Consultant Psychiatrists.

West Sussex Community services are divided into two main areas: North West Sussex and Coastal Sussex. Coastal Sussex has four mental health Assessment and Treatment Teams located in Bognor, Worthing, Littlehampton, and Chichester. Each ATS covers a geographical area aligned with GP surgeries to facilitate liaison with Primary Care colleagues. This position is within Chichester ATS/NMHT, which covers patients in the community in Chichester, Midhurst and surrounding areas.

Psychiatrists are integral for driving change and influencing service development. As a Trust we welcome positive transformation and using each other's experiences to shape this. Main duties of the job

We are a large multi-disciplinary community mental health team, which provides specialist assessments and treatment to patients presenting with a range of complex and unstable mental health and social needs.

As a consultant psychiatrist in our team, your main duties will be to:

  • Provide specialist medical /psychiatric assessment and evidence-based treatment to patients referred to the service.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees and informal advice and supervision to non-medical members of the team
  • Fulfil the duties of Responsible Clinician for patient's subject to Community Treatment Orders including attendance at Mangers Hearings and Tribunals.
  • Mental Health Act assessments for patients on the team caseload
  • Liaison with inpatient Responsible Clinicians
  • Liaison with the forensic team/drug and alcohol services and risk panel as required

Essential and Desirable
  • MBBS
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
  • Specialist registration or ability to achieve within 6 months of appointment
  • AC approval or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Has actively participated in audit and quality improvement activities
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications
