Job description

Consultant Psychiatrist Adult Psychiatry – Ward and Locality Team

There is an exciting opportunity within the North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Enfield Acute Adult Services based in Enfield. The role involves a split post between an acute ward (Suffolk ward or Sussex ward) and a Locality Team (North or South), caring for working age adult patients through assessment and treatment. Please refer to the updated Job Description for details on the full-time (10PA) post and the Person Specifications. Part-time applicants are welcome. This post is pending approval from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. A Recruitment and Retention Premia of £20,000 (conditions apply) and a relocation package of up to £8,000 are available.

Interviews are scheduled 2-4 weeks after the application deadline.

The position offers 10 Programmed Activities per week—7.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and up to 2.5 PAs for supporting professional activity (SPA). The post requires providing clinical and professional leadership, participating in management activities, supervising trainees, and contributing to service development and clinical pathways.

The post-holder will supervise two psychiatry trainees (ST4-6 and CT1-3) once they are in the substantive role. Before that, locum agency or trust doctors will ensure service continuity.

NLFT is committed to improving mental health care across North London, aiming to provide high-quality, accessible services, promote equity, support staff, and innovate through research and technology.

Flexibility may be required to work at different locations within Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, or Islington, as deemed necessary by the Trust.
