Job summary

Are you looking for your next role as a dynamic clinical leader in Acute Inpatient Psychiatry?

As the inpatient consultant on Juniper Ward, you will provide medical leadership to a multidisciplinary team on an 18-bed inpatient male and female ward within the Long Fox Unit at Weston General Hospital.

This post is supported by a full-time Specialty Doctor and a full-time Trust Grade Doctor. A CT1 and F1 may be on the ward if the post holder is an accredited trainer.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver direct interventions and conduct weekly reviews for inpatients, including those requiring the use of the Mental Health Act who are difficult to engage.
  • Assess, diagnose (including review and clarification), and treat mental and physical health needs.
  • Lead ward rounds and provide advice and support to ward team members, including junior medical staff.
  • Handle MHA-related work, including reports and tribunal attendance.
  • Participate in psychoeducation, crisis management, relapse prevention, and care planning.
  • Liaise with community mental health teams, GPs, and non-NHS organizations to ensure coordinated care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Desirable: Higher Degree (MD, PhD, MSc), MRCPsych or equivalent.
Eligibility
  • Essential: GMC registration with a license to practice, inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT, approved clinician status or achievable within 3 months, approved under S12 or achievable within 3 months.
Clinical Skills
  • Assess and treat psychiatric problems in adults of working age, including crisis situations.
Personal Skills
  • Leadership and teamwork skills, effective communication, time management, and the ability to work collaboratively with patients, carers, and staff.
Experience
