Job summary

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership and specialist assessment to patients within the community mental health team. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive training in psychiatry and be eligible for GMC registration, offering a chance to make a significant impact in mental health care for the local community.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the GMC and holds MRC Psych.
  • Qualification as an Approved Clinician and relevant section 12 (2) approval required.
  • Experience in acting as a Responsible Clinician.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical expertise and leadership within the community mental health team.
  • Supervise medical and training staff involved in patient care.
  • Attend committees and actively participate in service management.

Provide clinical expertise and leadership to a defined multidisciplinary community mental health team.

Provide specialist assessment and clinical management of patients aged 18 and over with mental health problems referred from within the locality.

Main duties of the job

Provide medical liaison and advice to the Primary Mental Health Support Service and local GPs on a sessional basis.

Provide supervision for the Speciality doctor and core trainee, and to a Specialist Registrar if the post holder is approved as trainer and an SpR is allocated to the team.

Qualifications and eligibilty

Knowledge and Experience
  • Comprehensive training and experience in psychiatry
  • Higher training experience in psychiatry.
  • oExperience of acting as s12(2) doctor or Responsible Clinician
Audit and Research
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
  • Evidence of having undertaken audit relevant to speciality
  • Proven capability to initiate and undertake original work.
  • Evidence of service wide audit with significant and lasting impact on practice
Management/Teaching
  • Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching
  • Ability to supervise Staff Effectively
  • Evidence of having delivered multi disciplinary teaching
