Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our mental health team at HMP Stocken. HMP Stocken is a category C training prison housing around 1056 patients, the majority of whom are aged between 21-40 years. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support adult males with complex mental health and trauma needs.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite.
  2. Participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments, and provide clinical supervision.
  3. Review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in complex case reviews with the multidisciplinary team.

Work Schedule

Part-time role of 20 hours per week, flexible across 2.5 days with a rolling rota (2 days one week, 3 days the next), Monday to Friday. Full-time roles are also available across HMP Stocken and other sites.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Registered professional with current GMC registration.
  • Specialist Registration in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working complexities.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorder.
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation.

Compensation & Support

The position offers up to £180,000 per annum FTE depending on experience. Support includes:

  • Part of a team of 15+ experienced Consultant psychiatrists.
  • Monthly meetings and 1:1 supervision.
  • Bespoke induction and training.
  • Competency framework.
