Due to the upcoming recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at HMP Brixton. HMP Brixton will be a Category B male prison from April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients' needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody.

Hours

We are looking for 3 days per week to be covered. There is flexibility in which days Monday to Friday that this is.

Salary

This position is part-time working 22.5 hours per week. You’ll receive an annual salary up to £190,000 full-time equivalent per annum - depending on experience.

What you'll be doing:

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the case load onsite
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead the senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi-professional complex case reviews.

Qualifications required

  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC)
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983
  • Experience of working in a prison
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and PD
  • Aware of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation
