Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our mental health team at HMP Gartree. HMP Gartree is a category B prison based in Market Harborough, housing around 650 patients. You will be working closely with the multidisciplinary team, including GPs and ACPs, to deliver psychiatric support to adult males, mainly aged 28-50, many of whom have complex mental health and historic trauma needs.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite.
  2. Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments, and provide clinical supervision.
  3. Work within the multidisciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in complex case reviews.

Working Hours:

20 hours per week, spread across 2.5 days. We can create a rolling rota (2 days one week, 3 days the next) with flexible days Monday to Friday. Full-time roles are also available across HMP Stocken, HMP Gartree, or HMP Five Wells.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Registered professional with current GMC registration.
  • Specialist registration in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working complexities.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorders.
  • Awareness of current mental health service issues, policies, and legislation.

Salary and Support:

This position offers an annual salary up to £180,000 (FTE), depending on experience. Support includes:
