We have an excellent full-time opportunity at Cygnet Nield House, working within our 14-bed complex personality disorder service for women with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Nield House in Crewe is our 29-bed mental health hospital for women.

Cygnet Nield House is split into two distinct wards, each offering specialist mental health services:

Clarion Ward, a 14-bed complex personality disorder service for women with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating.

Compton Ward, a 15-bed acute service for women. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for women experiencing an acute episode of mental illness requiring emergency admission.

We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Nield House, providing senior medical cover on Clarion ward.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients as required, and responsible for auditing medical services to ensure quality in accordance with GMC standards and other guidelines.

Your expertise will drive life-changing treatments, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the provision of high-quality care to service users admitted to Clarion Ward
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits
  • Lead risk assessment and management, embedding clinical governance within the service
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave approvals
  • Maintain good patient records
  • Maintain communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and other bodies, maintaining appropriate reports
  • Attend academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD as set by GMC, DoH, and Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Contribute to [insert frequency] Telephone On-call rota
