Sandpiper Ward, a 16-bed male acute unit within Acute Services in Central Norfolk, is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to lead it. The post becomes vacant in November 2026, when the current acting-up consultant moves on, and centres on assessment, risk assessment, treatment and brief interventions.

Applicants need GMC registration and Section 12(2) approval. The role involves working with home treatment, community and social care teams to ensure patient throughput and high-quality,

Responsabilités

• Assess and triage admitted patients, including risk assessment
• Review treatments, starting new ones or modifying existing ones
• Deliver brief interventions such as short-term support, structured activities and brief psychological therapies
• Lead the ward as its dedicated consultant psychiatrist
• Provide evidence-based care with intensive medical and nursing input
• Work with occupational therapy, psychology, physical health nursing and peer-support workers
• Work with the home treatment team, community mental health teams, housing, social services and police to maintain patient throughput

Sandpiper Ward, a 16-bed male acute unit within Acute Services in Central Norfolk, is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to lead it. The post becomes vacant in November 2026, when the current acting-up consultant moves on, and centres on assessment, risk assessment, treatment and brief interventions. Patients, men aged 18 to 70 with severe mental disorders, are admitted voluntarily or under the Mental Health Act. The unit works closely with the home treatment, community and social care teams. Applicants need GMC registration and Section 12(2) approval.

What the job involves

• Assess and triage admitted patients, including risk assessment
• Review treatments, starting new ones or modifying existing ones
• Deliver brief interventions such as short-term support, structured activities and brief psychological therapies
• Lead the ward as its dedicated consultant psychiatrist
• Provide evidence-based care with intensive medical and nursing input

Qualifications

• Specialist Register entry, or within 6 months of CCST

Registration & licences

• Entry on the GMC Register
• Approved clinician status
• Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act

Experience

• 3 years or equivalent medical experience
• 6 months' experience in the relevant clinical area
• Knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment and management of complex mental illness
• Experience of supervising junior medical staff
