Job description

This is an exciting time to join our expanding department and contribute to the development of our front door frailty services, including acute assessments in ED and SDEC, virtual ward management, specialty reviews on inpatient wards, community multidisciplinary team meetings, and advice for GPs and ambulatory care assessments.

The successful applicant will be an integral part of a front door frailty service alongside 3 other established consultants.

The postholder will help shape services for elderly patients and will join 10 Consultant Geriatricians providing services such as stroke care, geriatric medicine, orthogeriatrics, perioperative care of the elderly, rehabilitation, and frailty management. We are working closely with community services and commissioners to develop seamless pathways across primary, community, and acute care.

The main responsibilities include providing inpatient care, acute front door admission avoidance, virtual ward (frailty), and outpatient services. The post involves caring for approximately 15 General Medical inpatients with an elderly care focus, participating in the on-call Thrombolysis rota (weekends and bank holidays), perioperative care of the elderly, front door frailty service, virtual ward, and acute GIM on-calls.

We offer a welcoming environment at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where staff are valued and supported through an outstanding benefits package, including free on-site parking, free tea and coffee, flexible working opportunities, discounted gym membership, lease car scheme, generous leave and pension schemes, on-site nursery (chargeable), and extensive health and well-being programs.
