Job summary
Pathology provides a comprehensive service including microbiology, clinical biochemistry, immunology, haematology, blood transfusion, laboratory haemophilia, and cellular pathology to patients of EKUHFT, general practitioners, community healthcare, and private hospitals in east Kent.
The majority of blood science analyses, including all work from primary care, are conducted in purpose-built facilities on the WHH site. East Kent Hospitals is engaged in the Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STP) for Kent and Medway to develop an integrated pathology service across the region.
Digital pathology for diagnostic reporting is being implemented, with a go-live date scheduled for 2025.
Main duties of the jobThe post-holder must have full GMC registration, be a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent, and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining the CCT at the time of interview.
The general responsibilities include providing top-tier clinical service, leading staff effectively, practicing ethically, supporting other clinical specialties, and contributing to education and postgraduate teaching.
The post involves sharing service provision for East Kent with other consultants, arranged on a fortnightly rota primarily at WHH, with duties at other sites via in-person or videoconferencing support. The post holder reports to the Head of Service for Cellular Pathology, who is responsible for service delivery in collaboration with the Clinical Director of Pathology and Medical Director.
