Consultant Paediatrician (with various special interests)

We have a fantastic opportunity for five Consultant Paediatricians (full time) with a special interest to join our close-knit and engaged team, complementing our established team of 16 consultants, providing attending and on-call services for our General Paediatrics and Level 2 Neonatal Unit.

We have 2 roles, which will be mainly based at Basildon, for which we would expect you to have a special interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology or Epilepsy, and 3 roles, mainly based at Broomfield, which we would expect you to have a special interest in Safeguarding, Neonates and Cardiology and Ambulatory Care.

For those with a special interest, there will also be opportunities to undertake and develop expertise in other areas as per above.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the roles, outlined below, are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

Specialist interests as outlined above are essential.

It is expected that the candidate will maintain APLS/NLS provider status and keep up to date with current developments in acute and neonatal paediatrics.

As one of our Paediatric Consultants, you will be expected to provide clinical leadership, set standards of clinical care, participate in the development of acute child health services, and promote integration between primary and secondary care services and preventative health.

Your role will entail undertaking 3 outpatient sessions per week, and the expectation that you have the abilities to set up and work in a multi-disciplinary team and have clinical accountability for the day-to-day management of children at their respective sites as a consultant of the week.

Your role will involve working with colleagues in the level 2 neonatal department, providing an effective and safe neonatal service, the expectation that you will further develop clinical protocols and guidelines, and maintain involvement in clinical audit and clinical governance.

Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
  • Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent professional qualification
  • Valid APLS/EPLS/EPALS, BLS, NLS and Level 3 Safeguarding Training
  • SPIN training in the area of special interest, i.e., Safeguarding, Neonates and Cardiology
Knowledge and Experience
  • Evidence of thorough broad training and experience in the specialty
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities, and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team
  • Specialist interest in Rheumatology or Diabetes
