The Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Epilepsy will be based at St Helier Hospital, joining the Queen Mary's Hospital for Children service to deliver care across the Merton and Sutton boroughs.

This is a replacement post based at St Helier, contributing to Epilepsy outpatient activity, Complex Epilepsy, and General Paediatrics, with a 1 in 8 on-call commitment and consultant presence 1 in 5 weeks within a dedicated paediatric team.

Qualifications

• Interest in epilepsy management including outpatient activity and teaching.

Job description

We are currently looking to recruit a Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Epilepsy to Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, St Helier Hospital, to help deliver our service in the boroughs of Merton and Sutton.

This post is a replacement post and will be based at St Helier hospital.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the acute General Paediatric team during working hours to provide routine day to day acute paediatric services.

We currently offer our patients a wide range of acute paediatric and community services including Epilepsy which this post is expected to contribute to.

The post holder would contribute to Epilepsy, including Complex Epilepsy and General Paediatrics outpatient activity.

The post holder will be attending Consultant on a 1 in 5 week basis and on the General Paediatric ward and join the on call team with a 1 in 8 on call frequency.

As an organisation we are committed to develop our services in a collaborative manner with the local authorities, in ways that best suit the needs of our patients.

The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the team continue to deliver a high quality service and will be involved in strategic planning of services with our local partners. The post holder will join a team of 13 Acute Paediatric Consultants and 2 Associate Specialists. There are also 14 middle grade and 16 junior doctors on the acute paediatric and neonatal rotas, in addition to Clinical Nurse Specialist for Epilepsy, Asthma, Allergy, Diabetes and Neurodisability.

Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme. There will be opportunities to build and further teaching and training ambitions, as we have middle grade trainees within the department

Principle Duties of the Post

The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.

1. 1 To, at all times, comply withthe GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time.
2. 2 To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3. 3 To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.
4. 4 To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5. 5 On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
6. 6 To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
7. 7 To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and out patients under your care.

Management & Governance

1. 8 To maintain personal and professional development. The post holder will be expected to register with their respective Royal College for the purpose of CME/CPD and to fulfil the requirements of that registration.
2. 9 To provide advice, as required to the Executive and Trust Board, General Practitioners and other interested parties, on the provision of planning of clinical services locally, regionally and nationally in keeping with confidentiality agreements relating to Trust business.
3. 10 To co-operate in the present framework agreement of management arrangements.
4. 11 To fully participate in Clinical Governance arrangements across the Trust including participation in clinical audit, research (where appropriate), pursuing an agreed agenda with colleagues and the Trust Board and fully co-operating in implementing the results in order to achieve best practice.
5. 12 To participate, on at least an annual basis in appraisal and job planning reviews.
6. 13 To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.
7. 14 To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.
8. To participate in the delivery of educational activities and training of juniors, and contribute to supervision ensuring a completed educational portfolio in line with GMC recommendations
