A leading healthcare organization in Brighton is seeking a Consultant in Paediatric Surgery to join their team. The successful candidate will provide elective and acute surgical services, with a focus on paediatric urology. Ideal candidates will have extensive paediatric urology experience and possess relevant qualifications. The role promotes collaboration across departments and offers opportunities for teaching and research.
This is a substantive post following expansion of the department and converting a locum post to a substantive one. The successful candidate will join 6 substantive paediatric surgical consultants to make a department of 7 substantive consultants. The post holder will provide elective and acute general paediatric surgery and be one of 3 consultants in the department responsible for delivering the paediatric urology service to network partners with a focus on outreach functional urology. You will be supported by a team of Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists, Paediatricians, Neonatologists, Paediatric Gastroenterology, Radiologists and Pathologists.

This post will allow a 1 in 6 on-call service with a consultant of the week model in the first instance. A Category A supplement of 5% applies. The post provides day-case and inpatient operating lists and outpatient paediatric surgery, urology and functional urology. The postholder will help develop relationships with network partner hospitals and strategic sites in East Surrey, St Richard’s, Eastbourne, Conquest, Hastings and Worthing.
The department operates as a regional service, networked with partner organisations in East Sussex, Surrey and Sussex, Queen Victoria Hospital, and Sussex Community NHS Trusts, with links to the South Thames Paediatric Network, Evelina London, St George’s Hospital, Kings College Hospital, and the Wessex and Thames Valley ODN. The department includes neonatal surgical services with Trevor Mann Baby Unit and supports minimally invasive surgery and regional intestinal failure services. The unit hosts two paediatric surgical trainee posts and collaborates with related tertiary specialties on site.
Responsibilities include safeguarding, high-quality service delivery, and contributing to regional solutions for children and young people. The post supports undergraduate teaching at BSMS and postgraduate teaching for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. The post also supports a research programme and participation in audits, with opportunities to publish and present findings.
