Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist

The South Wales Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Network are delighted to invite applications for a substantive Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology, to join the dynamic multidisciplinary team based at the University Hospital of Wales site in Cardiff.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic colleague to join a current team of 3 consultants across the network. The applicants must possess CCT or be within 6 months of completing the CCT or equivalent in general paediatrics. They should have at least 2 years sub-specialty training in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition in an approved institution and preferably on or eligible for GMC sub-speciality register for Paediatric Gastroenterology.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

This role will involve supporting colleagues across a South Wales Paediatric

Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (PGHAN) Network, including

scheduled outreach clinics in district general hospitals across the region ability

to travel to other locations is therefore essential in order to fulfil the

requirements of the job plan.

You will provide with consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health.

You will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in

liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the

department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended

from time to time).

You will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of

junior medical staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the

contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training

and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.

Job responsibilities

You will be required to participate in continuing medical education in ways

which are acceptable to the Chief Executive. The UHB supports the

requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the

Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health and is committed to providing time

and financial support for these activities in line with the UHB Policy.

You will be required to participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with

the Health Boards policy on the implementation of Clinical Governance.

Domiciliary consultations - as appropriate to Cardiff and Vale residents in

accordance with the Health Board Policy.

The successful candidate will share the responsibilities for regional out-of

hours on-call work with the other consultants.
