Job summary

We are seeking to appoint 1 enthusiastic and committed Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist to our friendly, supportive and dynamic Anaesthetic Department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post is full-time with each comprising a total of 10 PA per week (8.0 DCC + 2.0 SPA). The post has fixed sessions in areas of sub-specialty practice and pre-operative assessment, plus annualised flexible sessions in a wide range of surgical specialties.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to work autonomously in their field of expertise to fulfil the clinical and non-clinical duties within the agreed Job Plan. The appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients under his/her care and be responsible with Consultant colleagues for the provision of both comprehensive elective and emergency anaesthetic services. The appointee will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post according to the agreed Job Plan and give these priority at all times.

The post has a draft job plan which best reflects our assessment of what the final plans will be, based on an initial 10 PA contract. The job plan consists of regular Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions in areas of sub-specialty practice, plus flexible DCC sessions which will be scheduled after agreement with the successful candidates. The post holder will contribute to the general, cross-campus out-of-hours service covering a single campus per on-call. These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her Consultant colleagues and the Trust.

Any Consultant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post on a part-time basis; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with Consultant colleagues. Anaesthesia provides a clinical service across both campuses. It is anticipated that the post holder may be reasonably asked to provide clinical sessions on either campus in the future as required by the service.
