Overview

We are seeking an individual trained in the provision of hand surgery with orthopaedic and plastic surgery experience. The role involves working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex hand surgery, with a commitment to service development and improving the patient experience.

Main duties
  • Clinical: Integrate into the multi-disciplinary hand trauma team within the trust
  • Clinical: Develop areas of practice and streamline the surgical journey in acute hand trauma
  • Clinical: Provide an elective hand surgery service for adult patients
  • Clinical: Work within both the plastic and T&0 directorate
  • Clinical: There will be no out of hours on call duties
  • Clinical: There will be a weekly trauma clinic and list within plastic surgery

Person specifications

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills

  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC)
  • Hand training interface group fellowship
  • Logbook activity of elective and trauma hand practice

Desirable

  • Higher Degree
  • Special skills training in the specialty

Clinical Experience

  • Evidence of experience in the specialty
  • Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
  • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the specialty
  • Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre

Management and Administration Experience

  • Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty
  • Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance

Teaching

  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
  • Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Ability to teach clinical / technical / practical skills

Research

  • Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings
  • Research/critical review of literature
  • Publications in the last five years

Audit

  • Evidence of participation in audit
  • Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit
  • Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement
