We have an outstanding opportunity for a skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Upper Limb or Shoulder & Elbow surgery to join our award-winning team at Practice Plus Group Surgical Centre, Shepton Mallet.
In this role, you’ll work in a purpose-built, modern surgical centre rated Good the CQC and known for exceptional clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. You’ll contribute to a service designed around clinical excellence, low infection rates, and high-quality patient care.
You will have the freedom to focus on delivering safe, evidence-based surgery without the distractions of acute admissions or trauma rotas, while also benefiting from a supportive and forward-thinking team.

What you'll be doing
As our Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will be:
- Performing a broad range of upper limb procedures, including:
- Arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery (e.g., tendon repairs, stabilisations, decompressions)
- Arthroscopic and open elbow surgery
- Shoulder replacement surgery
- Dupuytren’s contracture release
- Trapeziectomy and minor hand procedures (e.g., carpal tunnel release)
- Providing preoperative assessment, intraoperative care, and postoperative follow-up for patients
- Ensuring all treatments meet the highest standards of safety and clinical effectiveness
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to develop and improve clinical pathways
- Contributing to audit, research, and the ongoing development of the service
- Participating in appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development activities
- Taking part in on-call rota cover (with first-line provided by Resident Medical Officers)
- Supporting the training and supervision of junior clinical staff
What we’ll look for in you
With your GMC Specialist Registration in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, you will also have:
- Extensive training and proven operative experience in upper limb or shoulder & elbow surgery
- Evidence of excellent clinical outcomes and a strong commitment to patient safety
- A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working and service development
Flexibility, objectivity, and a commitment to delivering agreed volume and productivity targets - Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance, audit, and risk management principles
- Excellent communication skills and a patient-centred approach
- Fellowship training in shoulder & elbow surgery – desirable
- Experience working in an independent sector surgical centre – desirable
- Evidence of teaching, presentations, or contributions to clinical research - desirable
