Job description

UHNM is looking to recruit a substantive Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics, specialising in soft tissue knee and knee surgery. In conjunction with consultant colleagues, the post holder will provide a soft tissue knee service at UHNM, responding to local and network referrals. The post holder will also be expected to provide specialist trauma knee work as well as elective soft tissue knee procedures.

Main duties of the job
  1. The successful applicant should have dedicated training in knee surgery.
  2. The post holder will manage inpatient and outpatient care for trauma and orthopaedic patients, including knee patients, and provide specialist emergency trauma and elective orthopaedic care.
  3. The role involves working across both sites at Royal Stoke and County Hospital and contributing to an on-call rota, with future plans for a specialist on-call system.
  4. Contribute to medical student teaching and collaborate with a network of allied health professionals.
  5. Participate in departmental management, administrative duties, and service planning and development.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Entry via CCT or CESR (CP), with a proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview, or European Community Rights

Clinical Experience & Training (Essential):

  • Postgraduate and undergraduate teaching experience
  • Extensive experience in managing soft tissue knee and trauma as part of a major trauma service
  • Completion of approved fellowship in soft tissue knee subspecialty
  • Ability to independently manage clinical care
  • Recent ATLS/European Trauma or equivalent course

Desirable: Experience in a major trauma centre

Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working (Essential):

  • Experience in teaching and training at appropriate levels

Management and Administrative Experience (Essential):

  • Ability to help manage the unit and advise the Trauma Directorate
